Learn More on the House Bill 5104 in Connecticut.
This is the same legislation as last year from the Senate Majority leader that will prohibit import, possession, sale, offer for sale, or transport of six African species of wildlife—African elephant, lion, leopard, black rhinoceros, white rhinoceros, and giraffe. The legislation has a public hearing TOMORROW in Hartford in the Environment Committee. In advance of that, I have submitted written testimony in opposition to this bill. See attached for that testimony.
SCI is working with groups like the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation, Sportsmen’s Alliance, Northeast Taxidermy and some in-state sportsmen’s groups to sign on to a joint letter opposing this bill as well.
As far as next steps, we will be doing a grassroots Action Alert through our Hunter Advocacy Action Center on this bill where our members in CT can write to their elected officials with just a few clicks telling them they oppose this legislation and educating them on what true conservation looks like. We encourage you to tell your chapter members to sign up for this as soon as possible tonight during your chapter meeting. They can sign up by clicking this link: https://p2a.co/r2682hs?iframe=1 This system works wonders but currently we only have 14 members in CT signed up.
